This paper investigated if there was a significant difference between the evaluation of female and male student teachers in the following areas of teaching practice: preparation, supervision, teaching environment and teaching practice experience. The data collected was encoded and analyzed using the Predictive Analysis Software (PASW). Twenty six (26) student teachers undertaking their TP at various schools within Nandi Central District, nineteen (19) females and seven (7) males participated. To ensure reliability, a pilot study was conducted in three schools within Nandi South District which had students on teaching practice; one boys’ school, one girls’ school and one mixed school. A reliability Coefficient of 0.60 was set as a cut- off point. The males feel they did not gain much from the feedback of the supervisors, whereas their female counterparts benefitted immensely from the supervisors’ feedback. Both females and males agree that the collaborating teacher did not attend their lessons and therefore they were not of much help. Female student teachers tend to agree with the housing conditions provided in these schools whereas their female counterparts are less satisfied. This paper sought to establish if there was a significant difference among secondary school administrators, teachers of English and students in Adventist Secondary Schools in Tanzania in their perceptions on the usefulness of media resources in English teaching and learning. The present study employed descriptive, comparative and correlational research designs. The study used questionnaires to collect the information from teachers of English, students and school administrators regarding the usefulness of media resources in English instruction among Adventist Secondary Schools in Shinyanga, Mwanza, Mara, Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions. Three hundred and eighty (380) respondents participated. The findings show that all the three groups agreed that media resources are useful in English instruction and that both the male and female students agreed that media resources are useful in English instruction. It is therefore highly essential for secondary schools to provide adequate and relevant materials for the teaching and learning, not only of English, but for all other subjects in the secondary school curriculum. Future studies could look at perceptions of different stakeholders on improvisation of teaching and learning resources. Keywords: Usefulness, Media, resources, Adventist schools, Tanzani

This studylooked at teachers’ and students’ views on the use and usefulness of observational techniques in the teaching and learning of English. Twenty nine (29) teachers and 1030 students participated.Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient was used to estimate the internal consistency of items in the questionnaire and a coefficient above 0.6 was accepted as reliable. The Mann-Whitney test was used to determine the difference in the perception of students and teachers on the teachers’ use and usefulness of observational techniques. The Kruskal-Walis (K-W) test was used to determine the difference in perception of teachers on the use and usefulness of observational techniques.Scoring rubrics, anecdotal records and portfolios have similar impact when used in the evaluation of performance, while checklists, rating scales, and usefulness of observational techniques have different impact when used in the evaluation of English performance. Students in the girls’ schools find observational techniques more useful than the students in boys’ and mixed schools, but the teachers were in agreement that the techniques are beneficial to all schools irrespective of their types. Teachers and students had varied opinions on the use and usefulness of observational techniques in Provincial and District schools. The students’ accepted that only scoring rubrics could be used in both Provincial and District schools while the teachers agreed that all the observational techniques were useful in evaluating performance in both Provincial and District schools.
